Gunnar Nylund

He´s been called a universal genius of the renaissance. The man who before others set a new standard in ceramics, according to the modern funktionalisms simplified rules, during the 1930´s and 1940´s. Through an exhibition at the Gallerie Moderne in Stockholm in 1932 he became known as an individual thinker by breaking the rules of traditional pottery. Nylund instantly became one of the leading influences in Swedish ceramics and soon he came to be the artistic director at Rörstrand were he remained until 1956. During the period of 1952 and 1975 Nylund had a collaboration with Strömbergshyttan, mainly by sending drawings to the glassworks. His work is today represented in major museums around the world.
