Johnny Mattson

It´s said that Johnny Mattsson was born with a knife in his hands. Maybe it is true, at least in a symbolic sense. In 1941 Mattsson started his own studio Gefleslöjd, Sweden. Ten years later, in 1951, he made his breakthrough as a renowned artist with exibitions around Sweden. His work was quite comprehensive and balanced between everyday objects and beautiful and elegant arts, finely carved trays, bowls and sculptures. In 1954 he became internationally known through the exibition Design in Scandinavia in the USA. In 1955 his work was exhibited at MOMA in NewYork.
