JHQ Cast Iron Candle Holder

With its sprawling shape, this cast iron candle holder leads our associations to the 1960´s space age era. The rough matte surface perfectly matches the sculptural shape and captures Quistgaard´s unique expression. It holds 12 taper 0,5 cm candles (1/5 inches). Measures 11 cm across (appr. 4 1/3 inches). Jens Harald Quistgaard

Born into an artistic environment in Copenhagen 1919, Quistgaard early on became an apprentice at silversmith Georg Jensen. The multitalented Quistgaard established Dansk Designs in 1945. For over two decades he designed numerous series of furniture and artifacts ranging from ceramics to fine crafted wooden objects, always approaching things from the sculptor's perspective and with respect for the traditions of craftsmanship. With his abundant originality and the new techniques used Quistgaard helped characterize an important era in Danish design and through this claimed world wide recognition.
